Steven Kent - 2017-18 Canberra Cavalry

Canberran veteran Kent continues to roll along as a mainstay of the Canberra Cavalry's starting rotation. The 2017-18 ABL season was his seventh season with the Cavalry.

Now, I've noticed that all of the online and series program references to Kent have his first name as Steven, yet I've always had him listed as just Steve. It's looks like I've been getting his first name wrong for all of these years! Sorry Steven.

Steve Kent - 2016-17 Canberra Cavalry

Local player Kent returned for his sixth season with the Cavalry during the 2016-17 ABL season. During 2016, Kent primarily spent time with the Atlanta Braves double A affiliate, the Mississippi Braves, although he did have a single game with the Triple A level Gwinnett Braves.

Steve Kent - 2015-16 Canberra Cavalry

Local boy Kent returned for his fifth ABL season with the Canberra Cavalry in 2015-16, also returning to the starting rotation following his recovery from Tommy John surgery. His success this season led to him being named in the 2015 All Star Game, and his signing with the Atlanta Braves organisation for 2016, the organisation where he played in stints between 2007 and 2011.

Kent has kept his "meaner" look that he debuted last season, and he even gave a stern look for the camera when he was warming up in the picture below. Although I have got in game shots of him pitching, I prefer this shot of him for the card.

Steve Kent - 2014-15 Canberra Cavalry

Canberran born Kent returned to the playing field with the Cavalry in 2014-15 after being on the sidelines  for the previous 14 months due to Tommy John surgery. He was used sparingly over the last month of the season to try and ease him back into ABL play.

Steve Kent - 2013-14 Canberra Cavalry

Canberran local Kent returns to the Cavalry for his fourth straight ABL season in 2013-14. The 2013 off season appeared to be a quiet one for him - I've been unable to find any details of him playing after pitching for Australia in the World Baseball Classic back in March.

I've taken a different tack with my photo for Steven this year. I managed to grab a couple of photos of him playing with a young boy (I'm presuming his son Brayden, but I could be wrong) on the diamond between games of a double header. It's not the greatest shot with the ground staff's equipment in the background as they re-marked the playing surface, but I just loved the face he's pulling for the boy as they were playing

Steve Kent - 2012-13 Canberra Cavalry

Canberra's sole representative on the Australian 2013 WBC playing roster (Michael Collins is on the coaching staff) is Canberra boy Steve Kent. Kent returned for his third ABL season with the Cavalry in 2012-13, following a 2012 stint with the Kansas City T-Bones of the independent Northern League  He'd earlier been both signed and released by the Kansas City Royals either side of 2012 Spring Training.

Steve Kent - 2011-12 Canberra Cavalry

One of the better known Australian players on the Canberra Cavalry roster over the last two seasons has been Canberran native Steve Kent. Having been released after 6 years with the Atlanta Braves, Kent signed to play for the Kansas City T-Bones in the independent Northern League for 2012, where he joins former Cavalry team-mate Brian Grening. Kent was a finalist in the Relief Pitcher of the Year Award for the 2011-12 season.
