Trent Oeltjen - 2016-17 Brisbane Bandits

I don't know what happened at the Sydney Blue Sox during the previous couple of ABL seasons, but there certainly seemed to be a mini-exodus of established Blue Sox players who have fitted in nicely with other ABL teams. One of these was former MLB player Trent Oeltjen, who made his way onto the Brisbane Bandits roster for the 2016-17 ABL season, having previously played on and off for the Blue Sox since the 2010-11 ABL season.

Sydney Checklist - 2013-14 Sydney Blue Sox

Finally. My last card design to be posted up from the 2013-14 ABL season, and it's the checklist for the Sydney Blue Sox. The rest of my upcoming posts are all going to be card designs from the 2014-15 ABl season which is currently underway.

Trent Oeltjen - 2014-15 Sydney Blue Sox

Mr Smiley is back. I've never seen a player who smiles as much as Oeltjen ... it would be nice if more people were like that :)

Former Aussie MLB player Oeltjen is back with the Sydney Blue Sox for the 2014-15 ABL season, his 3rd in the ABL. He spent 2014 in two short stints - one with the Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican League, followed by a couple of months with the Reno Aces, the Arizona Diamondbacks Triple-A level affiliate.

Trent Oeltjen - 2013-14 Sydney Blue Sox

Former Australian MLB player Oeltjen made a a cameo appearance for the Blue Sox during the 2013-14 ABL season, playing 13 games following his release by the Anaheim Angels. This was actually his second appearance in the ABL, having played 2 games for Sydney in the inaugural 2010-11 ABL season.

Oeltjen played 99 games of MLB baseball between 2009 and 2011 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers and has 13 years of experience playing in the minors. In 2013 he played for the Salt Lake Bees, the Anaheim Angels' Triple A affiliate before being released.

His two cameos in the ABL couldn't have been more different. In 2010-11 he failed to get a hit in either of his two games. In 2013-14 he batted .465 in his 13 game stint.

An important note - if you have a copy of card 73 featuring Boss Moanaroa, rather than Aaron Sookee, then the Moanaroa card has come from the Nachos to Go promotional packs. Moanaroa was in the cards created for the promotional inserts, but was replaced with Sookee's card in the team sets when Moanaroa failed to make the Sydney roster for this season.

Inaugural COMC Motherload - Part 5 - Oeltjen & Huber

This is part five of my attempt to document my initial large load of cards ordered from COMC. This batch includes two Australian  players - Trent Oeltjen and Justin Huber. Huber played 72 MLB games between 2005 and 2009 with the Royals, Padres and Twins. Oeltjen played 99 MLB games with the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers between 2009 and 2011.

Three patch cards in this lot. My Card of the Buy™ goes to the Oeltjen 2006 Bowman Draft Future's Game Prospect card - I like the simple green & black design, and the fact it's a memorabilia card as well. I do quite like the design of the Huber Upper Dck Star Attractions card as well, although it's screaming out to have a patch where the Royals logo is.
